Ebony Toastmasters believes in learning by doing. Members learn by practicing how to conduct meetings, how to speak in front of a group, and how to give and receive constructive feedback in a supportive environment. Meetings are normally an hour and a half long.
We believe that Leaders are made
- Practice giving impromptu speeches—1 to 2 minute presentations where you think and speak on your feet.
- Present prepared speeches—4 to 10 minute presentations based on your speech level.
- Play a part—Take on an assigned leadership role, explain the role’s responsibilities, and complete associated tasks.
- Provide evaluations—Offer suggestions to speakers for improvement in areas such as speech organization, voice, and gestures.
