Farley Flex @ Ebony
Ebony was all ears when former Canadian Idol judge Farley Flex came to visit on April 18th, 2016. Speaking on”The Business of Public Speaking”, Flex recounted tales of a childhood where oration was practiced weekly and noted the significance of a national platform when taking his career to the next level.
Advising audience members on where to start when making a career out of public speaking, Flex remarked that “Leadership is not a 9-5 job. Speaking is not a 45-minute presentation.” Being yourself, being passionate, and having a unique selling point are all contributing factors to public speaking success. “Don’t ever ration your passion… because I will not want to listen.” The point was driven home in an enthusiastic performance by local talent Charmie Deller, praised by Flex for her willingness to show up and give 100% to her audience at every venue, big or small.
To thank him for his support of the club, Flex was bestowed honorary Ebony Toastmaster status by club President Rita Burke, and was invited to return to the club as frequently as possible. District Director Elton Brown and long-time mentor Deborah Austin were also acknowledged for their significant contribution to and continued support of Ebony.
